Configuring and connecting to SoftEther VPN Server Free VPN for Windows 2016

To start the server, start the virtual machine through AWS

For the VM to work, you must have TCP port 3389 and UDP port 1194 open in the inbound rules of the Security group.

Connection to the VM

1. To connect via RDP, you must create a password for the connection first. To do this, use the following Guide.

2. Use the RDP protocol to connect to a virtual machine (VM). There is a standard application “Remote Desktop Connection” in Windows OS, which can be found in the search for standard Windows applications in the Start menu:

3.  Enter the IP address of your VM in the open application window in the “Computer” line, and click “Connect”.

Configuring the server

1. Click “Connect” in the opened window of the app:

2. When logging into the application for the first time, leave the password field blank.
4. To work with VPN, first you should add a user to the app.Click on the Manage Virtual Hub button:
   

5. Then click on the Manage Users button:

6. One user is already created in “Manage Users” and you can work with it, the default user data:

Login: “vpnuser1”

Password: “Uaii9013ghfd”

7. To change the default password, select the user and click “Edit”

8. And change data in the “Password” field:

9. To create a new user, click  “New”:

10. It’s necessary to insert the name of the user into the “User Name” field, type the password into the “Password” field and verify it by re-entering the password into the “Confirm Password” field. After the data were entered, click “OK”.

11. In order for OpenVPN to work, you need to get configuration files. For this, you need to click on the “OpenVPN / MS-SSTP Settings” button.

12. Click on the “Generate a Sample Configuration File for OpenVPN Clients” button.

13. When the window of Windows Explorer is opened, select the path to save the archive:

Customizing your VPN client

1. To customize the VPN Client, you need the OpenVPN Client for the work. Go to site: Community Downloads | OpenVPN, download and install OpenVPN client, depending on your OS Windows:

3. Then enter “Username” (1), Select the checkbox “Save password” (2) for your comfort, enter “Password” (3) and click “Connect” (4)

4. Click “Continue” to confirm use without a certificate
